Subscribed a while back but with you offering to fill in pot holes I figured it was worth seeing if I could get in under the wire. I live in Pepper Pike, Ohio, but work in New Albany, Ohio, so you can pick whichever area that works best for you!

Absolutely love your podcast. Believe it or not, I listen to it because 1) some of the smartest practical Abundance-minded policy discussion I have seen anywhere, 2) it seems like the UK is ahead of the game when it comes to forward looking policies (meaning you’re a great source for new ideas) and, based on the foregoing, 3) get perverse enjoyment the jealousy I feel when listening.

To the extent you care, I am a land use attorney/real estate developer in the advanced manufacturing, hyperscale data center, and power generation space. If you’re looking for a good case study on how Abundance-oriented policies can be put into practice, check out the story behind New Albany.

Keep up the great work!

Recently spent a week in Helsinki with work and the e-scooter hire network is so extensive and cheap that it’s a very viable way to get around.

Genuinely excellent and much more affordable than Lime Bikes in London, despite Helsinki being eye wateringly expensive.

Had a brief scoot around Helsinki when I was there - loved the ex-railway cutting that is now a bike path!

*hot take* I have some sympathy with the council and I reckon they are probably acting under legal advice. The council can't (I think, rather than won't) use taxpayer's cash to upgrade someone else's asset - arguably they should have come to a legal agreement on this with the owners back in the day, but there is every chance those discussions *did* take place, but the Danielseseseses were asking too high a price or not willing to engage or many other possibilities. I know from our own council in West Berks, they are very clear that they will only consider adopting a road if it is already maintained up to highway standard by the current owner. The road in question is currently owned by The Crown, and so, again the council can't spend money on someone else's asset. If they decided to bull on and upgrade the road, I suspect a Daniels would apply to the Courts / Duchy of Lancaster for permission to restore the dissolved company, and hey presto, you have a company with a very valuable asset, ripe for a very expensive toll booth.

I agree and was really disappointed that so little time was spent on analysis of the legal loophole the Daniel’s family appear to have discovered. I would have thought that doing something about this would be what an MP would want to do.
